Learn to manage perimenopause and menopause pain naturally with Dr. Marnie.Menopause is a term we hear throughout our lifetimes as we experience this biological milestone through the stories and lives of our grandmothers, mothers, sisters, aunts, friends, in books, in movies, and even TV commercials. We are familiar with some of the more prominent symptoms like hot flashes and the onset of menopause after a woman has reached her 40s. But what exactly is menopause and how can we manage symptoms to perceive this time as a celebration of a new phase rather than suffering through discomforts we don’t know how to treat?

What is Menopause?

Menopause is, quite literally, the pausing of menstruation. It is when the ovaries stop producing estrogen and progesterone and a woman has reached menopause when she has not had a period for one year.

When Does Menopause Start?

Menopause can start in a woman’s 40s and slowly progress over a few years with mild to severe symptoms.

What is Early Menopause?

Early menopause, or perimenopause, is the time frame during which a woman will begin experiencing symptoms of menopause. Women in perimenopause may continue to menstruate for several years despite feeling some symptoms that indicate her body is beginning the process. Once the ovaries have stopped releasing eggs for the duration of one year, a woman is considered to be in menopause. This is a time of transition and for some women it can be filled with severe symptoms, but for others the symptoms are barely felt.

What are Perimenopause Symptoms?

Perimenopause symptoms can be the same symptoms that are felt during menopause listed above. Symptoms vary in the level of discomfort and how often they are felt. Each woman will experience perimenopause differently and some may require help to manage their symptoms and to find relief from discomfort.
